The Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Maryland provides our residents with the highest quality educational experience. We promote experiential learning in the context of providing superb patient care. The University of Maryland Medical System is the dominant provider of orthopaedic care in Maryland. The training program is intense and comprehensive, with extensive early operative experience and progressive responsibility. Residents rotate at several local institutions, which provides optimal exposure to all types of orthopaedic practice models as well as the breadth of orthopaedic care. All clinical sites and subspecialty experiences are within the Baltimore metro area. Our department is fully engaged in research and supports resident research with start-up funds as well as funding to present at national meetings. We enjoy state-of-the-art resources for clinical care, research, and surgical training/simulation. Most importantly, our residents are happy, and our graduates are proficient, skilled orthopaedic surgeons who are comfortable managing the full spectrum of orthopaedics from the routine to the ultra-complex.

Our 5-year residency program is structured with an orthopaedic internship and 4 years of rotation-based orthopaedics. Please see the following links for site and rotation specific descriptions.

Rotations are performed at the following locations:
