Orthopaedic Residency Program

Application to our orthopaedic residency program is through ERAS. We require a complete ERAS application to include three letters of recommendation. NO additional information outside of ERAS is required. We accept foreign medical graduate applications through ERAS via ECFMG. The University of Maryland sponsors J1 Visa's. Our application deadline is November 1, 2009. Our interview days run from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm. We host an informal meet and greet the Friday evening before the interview day. We will issue interview invitations beginning Monday, November 16, 2009.  Our interview days will be Saturday, December 5, 2009 and Saturday, January 9, 2010.  Please do not send additional information outside of your ERAS application.  It is perfectly acceptable to include extra information as well as additional letters of recommendation thru ERAS.

The Department of Orthopaedics offers an accredited five-year residency program. The Department also offers an accredited six-year program that is identical to the five-year program with the addition of one year in the research lab. The research year is done during the resident's third year in the program.

Residents are involved in basic science education, formal journal club, chairmans' conference, and other didactic sessions. Residents must complete a research project that is of a caliber to be submitted to a peer reviewed journal.
