Cytopathology Fellowship

The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) offers a one-year fellowship in cytopathology. Located minutes from the Baltimore Orioles Stadium at Camden Yards and the multiple award-winning Inner Harbor, the focal point of UMMS is a well-occupied 568-bed hospital.

The cytology workload consists of approximately 12,000 cases annually (9,000 GYN and 3,000 Non-GYN), and is especially strong in pulmonary, gastrointestinal, transplantation, breast, genito-urinary, gynecologic, head and neck and hematopathology, with special faculty expertise in these and other specialty areas.

Experience will be gained in all aspects of fine needle aspiration. Liquid based cytology is utilized for most GYN cytology. Opportunities exist for elective rotations at John Hopkins and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology.
