The Children's Heart Running Team is comprised of runners of all levels who have chosen to raise money for children's heart disease as part of their participation in the annual Baltimore Running Festival. The race this year will be held on October 12, 2013. Members of the Children's Heart Running Team have included cardiologists from UMMC's Children's Heart Program, nurses, family members, students and community friends who've heard about the team and want to run for a good cause.

All the money raised by the Children's Heart Running Team goes directly to the Children's Heart Program at the University of Maryland Children's Hospital, where we care for patients with heart disease from before birth through childhood and into adulthood.

Children's Heart Running Team FAQs

Please select a question to see the answer:

Is joining the Children's Heart Running Team an all-year thing, or just a one-time race?

Runners who join the Children's Heart Running Team are committed to only one race a year ? the Baltimore Running Festival, which is planned for October 12, 2013. Runners can train at their leisure and participate in any race (5k, relay, half or full marathon) they choose.

Do I have to be an employee or student at the University of Maryland in order to participate?

No, anyone is welcome to join the team.

What is the fee to register for the running team?

The fee is $25 for any of the races (5k, team relay, half marathon, marathon).

How much do I need to fundraise?

The expectation is that you will raise a minimum of $100.

Where does the money raised go?

The money raised goes directly to the Children's Heart Program. Last year the money raised was used to purchase advanced diagnostic equipment to diagnose heart defects in unborn babies.

How do I fundraise?

When you register for the team, you will automatically set up a personal fundraising page. Here you can upload photos, write your personal story and send out emails to friends and family asking for their support.

If I'm not comfortable asking for money what do I do?

You can post a link to your personal fundraising page on social media sites or hold a fundraiser at a local restaurant and ask that they donate a portion of their proceeds back to you.

Why should I join this team?

You should join this team to help the 1 in 1,000 children who are born with heart disease and need advanced treatment in order to survive. As a bonus, you receive an Under Armour shirt made specifically for the Children's Heart Running Team. We will have giveaways and raffles for all the top fundraisers, team functions and a tent on race day with a catered breakfast!

Can I sponsor a runner?
