A little bit about myself...
Hi! My name is Janell. I was raised 20 minutes north of Baltimore in Cockeysville, MD. I went to Duke University for my undergraduate degree where I majored in Sociology, minored in German, and obtained a business certificate which can be equated with a minor. I took two science courses in college and realized in between my third and fourth year that I wanted to become a doctor. So the year following graduation I went to Bryn Mawr College to complete a post-baccalaureate program, after which I spent one year doing research in head and neck cancer at Johns Hopkins. I started medical school at the University of Maryland in 2002 where I have stayed because I enjoy it so much! I did take one year off in between third and fourth year of medical school to explore another area outside of Maryland; I traveled to the Western region of Ghana to teach reproductive health for 8 months through an NGO called Ghana Health and Education Initiative.
I initially started residency as purely a pediatrician but realized during my first year how much I missed adults so transferred into the Med-Peds program where I have been graciously welcomed! My most recent news is that I got engaged to my boyfriend who I couples-matched with and is a member of the medicine department at Maryland! Please feel free to email me with any questions about the program, the city, couples matching, or anything else you may be wondering!
