A little about myself. . .

I grew up near the intersection of the Columbia and Snake rivers in eastern Washington state. In high school and college, I played snare drum in marching bands and drum and bugle corps, and taught high school drum lines in and after college. After graduating from the University of Washington, I lived in Utah for a few years doing hematology research while living only 15 minutes away from awesome hiking, snow shoeing, and fishing.

I attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland for medical school, taking a year out to do obesity research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, just south of Baltimore. As my fiance says, why do in 4 years what you can do in 5? It was during that year out that I realized my professional goal of practicing academic primary care and research in primary care interventions and outcomes would best be served by residency in a combined Med/Peds program. The University of Maryland's Med/Peds department has been an excellent place to start my career, and has already taken an active role in fostering my goals with career and research mentoring.

I am recently engaged to my fantastic girlfriend who is a new psychiatry intern at UMD as well. This was a great place for us to couples match as we loved exploring the Baltimore-DC area during our year off. We are learning more about the city and its attractions on a daily basis, and are looking forward to the next four years here.
