A little bit about myself...
Hi! I was born in a little beach town on Long Island, NY but only lived a brief 2 year stint there in a modest single family home 2 doors down from my grandparents. Before I was fully potty trained, my parents moved us down to Gaithersburg, MD which was the best thing they could have done for my future. This is why I consider Gaithersburg and the great state of Maryland to be my hometown. While some people decide to pursue a career in Medicine in college, I made my decision to become a doctor a little earlier, at age 5. In kindergarten, I would constantly tell random family members “I’m going to be a doctor.” The response was mostly a little pat on the head and a facial expression that said sarcastically “Sure you will...” My parents were the exception, the only two people who honestly believed I could do it and constantly encouraged me. As a child, and mostly due to the influence of my older brother, I was raised as a Mets, Redskins, and Captitals fan (a combination of my NY roots and my MD upbringing).
During my adolescent years, I attended Good Counsel High School in Wheaton, MD where I nurtured my love of science. As a member of the first IB class to graduate from my high school, I completed my IB extended essay researching the parasitic disease Leishmaniasis (OK, so I wasn’t your average teen). I then went on to the University of Maryland at College Park (Go Terps!) for my undergraduate years. There, I majored in Cell and Molecular Biology and Genetics and was a member of the Gemstone Program. When I wasn’t in class or at the dining hall, I was playing around with fruit flies under the guise of “research” (We actually did study ovary development in our lab, I promise). I was also a college of Life Sciences Peer Mentor. In an attempt to make myself more well rounded, I completed my Gemstone Thesis project in the field of criminal justice. We conducted our own meta-analysis and devised a program that would help assimilate non-violent offenders back into the community and reduce recidivism rates.
Much to my delight, I stayed in Maryland to attend medical school at the University of Maryland (Yes, that’s right, you are looking at a pure-bred Terp). I had such a wonderful experience here at Maryland, I decided that this was the place I had to be for my Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Residency. I have been extremely happy with this decision. I very much enjoy working with not only my fellow Med/Peds residents, but also my categorical counterparts. They are a great group of people and I always feel I can lean on them for support or ask for their advice in the middle of the night (this is extremely important in residency). I enjoy their company so much so, that I often go to parties with my fellow residents and spend time with them outside of work. I also love living in Baltimore-It is such a diverse and unique city with great sporting events, theatres, restaurants, and museums all within walking distance. Where else can you picnic at Historic Fort McHenry, have breakfast at Bonaparte in beautiful Fell’s Point and visit the Walter’s Art Museum all in one weekend (I recently did this with my close friends)? So, if you want to get great clinical training at a place with wonderful colleagues, a great work/life balance, and outstanding faculty, come visit us in Baltimore and feel free to contact me with questions (I just started my Med/Peds Community Clinic which I absolutely love so be sure to ask me about this).
