Pediatric Cardiology Diagnostic Center
The Pediatric Cardiology Diagnostic Center performs cardiac evaluations
using the most advanced technology to diagnose structural and functional cardiac
abnormalities in patients from infancy through young adulthood.
In cooperation with Maternal/Fetal Medicine specialists from the Department
of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, the division provides comprehensive
fetal echocardiographic services for high-risk pregnancies. Division members
work closely with other disciplines to offer extensive medical and supportive care.
Patient Conditions
- Prompting fetal ultrasound:
- Family history of congenital heart disease
- Sustained fetal arrhythmias
- Abnormalities detected by amniocentesis or ultrasound
Comprehensive Evaluations
- Electrocardiography
- Exercise testing
- Holter monitoring
- Transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography
- Noninvasive oxygen saturation determination (pulse oximetry)
- Tilt table testing for recurrent syncope
Specialized Care
- Interventional catheterization: ASD Amplatzer Device Closure, PDA closure, valvotomy, arterial stents
- Radio frequency catheter ablation for arrhythmias
- Pacemaker and defibrillator implantation and follow-up
- Cardiac transplantation
- Psychosocial support and counseling
- Networking service to connect families of seriously ill infants and children
- Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging
- Coordination with pediatric anesthesia and surgery services
- Community-based follow-up in western Maryland and Baltimore, Carroll and
Harford counties
