Division of Child Protection--Center for Families
The Child Protection Program represents a service
focusing on children who are suffering from all forms of neglect and abuse.
This comprehensive program includes research, teaching and patient care.
In 2000, the University of Maryland School
of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics established the Division
of Child Protection. We are also known as the University of Maryland Center
for Families.
Mission
The Division of Child Protection/Center for Families is committed to:
- Providing excellent clinical services to children and families when
concerns of child abuse or neglect (or child maltreatment) arise
- Building a statewide network of medical experts in child maltreatment
- Developing strategies to help prevent child abuse and neglect
- Advocating on behalf of children and families to help address problems
associated with child maltreatment.
- Training professionals within the University system and in the community
- Conducting research to improve our knowledge concerning child maltreatment
