"It was the interactions of the residents with each other..."
When I was interviewing, I found Maryland to be the most resident friendly. That was important to me. I remember my interview with Dr. Vaydia- he put me at ease right away. I just felt comfortable here.
The size of the program seemed right. And I liked the emphasis on child advocacy. Now that I’m here- I haven’t been disappointed. As an intern I had great senior residents. They left such an impression on me. Everyone one of them took time to help me and they always seemed to have time to teach. I know that I want to be the same kind of leader when I am a senior.
My favorite rotation so far has been the ward. I really felt like the patient’s doctor. I was given a lot of responsibility. I was involved in making all the major decisions and I talked to the patient’s primary care doctor. I liked being able to insure a smooth transition from inpatient to outpatient care. The best part though is being able to intervene and then watch the kids get better. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a kid who is sick turn the corner and start to feel better as a result of something you’ve done!
