A little bit about myself...
I was born and raised right here in Maryland, specifically Montgomery County (Mo Co for all you Marylanders ;)). Attended University of Maryland College Park and will be a Terp for life! I took some time off before medical school to do research (as well as enjoy some free time and make some money!) at Walter Reed Research facility and then ventured off a year later to the Medical College of Virginia (aka VCU) in Richmond, VA. I had a great time there but definitely missed my family and friends. Also couples matched with my boyfriend from medical school, who went into Internal Medicine and loved the IM program at University of Maryland.
So far, my pediatrics experience has been great! My senior residents, attendings and fellows all have been incredibly nice and helpful. They really take the time to teach you but make it fun as well! Everyone is incredibly supportive. Not only do you see diverse patients but also diverse pathologies. I have seen patients with diagnoses I thought I would only see in a textbook.
Another great aspect of our program is our awesome residents! Our intern class tries to get together as much as possible and do anything from happy hours to Guitar Hero parties! University of Maryland also puts together housestaff happy hours where all the residents from every specialty in the hospital get an opportunity to meet and hang out together (the last one was a pool party/happy hour!). Aside from all the awesome bars, festivals, and other fun stuff to see in B'more, some weekends I drive down to DC with friends or head up to Atlantic City or New York City for a quick weekend get-a-way! I have made some great friends here already and am really looking forward to meeting next year's class as well. If you have any questions about our program, please feel free to email me!
