A little bit about myself...
I'm a Southerner at heart. Most of my life has been spent in Tennessee, growing up just outside of Nashville and doing my undergraduate work just outside of Chattanooga. I wandered out to Loma Linda University in Southern California for medical school where I enjoyed a few years in the sun before heading back east. I came to the Maryland area because this is where my fiance had a job, but I chose University of Maryland because it is where I felt I belonged.
No matter where you go, residency will have its challenges. The difference between the programs is the people you work with. I've only been at Maryland a short time, but I already love working here. Not only is there camaraderie among the residents, but everyone from the program director to the attendings to the chief residents are there to not only ensure that we receive the best training possible but also to ensure we have the best working environment as possible.
As far as Baltimore goes, I'm not much of a city person, but I can say we have excellent mountain biking 15 minutes outside of the city, wonderful road biking many places around the city and decent rock climbing not too far away. Whatever you are looking for, I'm sure you can find it here.
