Vision, Mission, Values

Vision Statement

To provide standard setting, proficient, and compassionate pharmaceutical care services to the patients and health care professionals of the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Pharmacy Locations

The University of Maryland Medical System has two outpatient pharmacies:

The Weinberg Pharmacy is located on the first floor of the Medical Center beside the elevators in the main lobby.
Hours: Monday-Friday 7 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The University Pharmacy on Redwood Street is located in the professional building at 419 W. Redwood Street, two blocks from the hospital

Hours: Monday through Friday - 9:30am to 5:00pm
Closed weekends and holidays

An appropriately selected and refined pharmaceutical care model will shape the patient-centered services. The care will be delivered by pharmacy staff members who provide and accept responsibility for the product-related and clinical activities that compose the pharmaceutical care model.

The product-related activities will be technology-based and technician-led. The product-related activities will be supported by systems designed to promote efficiency and ensure patient safety.

The clinical component of the pharmaceutical care model will be supported by specialized clinical practitioners. These specialized practitioners will accomplish this by maintaining a high level of clinical acumen through their practices, by developing clinical systems, and by infusing both into the pharmaceutical care model.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the University of Maryland Medical Center Department of Pharmacy is to serve. Our Mission to serve is fulfilled through commitment to Ten Standards of Practice:

The employees will serve the patients by providing proficient and compassionate pharmaceutical care.
The employees will serve each other by adhering faithfully to the department's code of conduct.
The employees will serve other health care professionals by treating them as customers and ensuring that their needs are met within the context of good pharmacy practice.
The management team will serve the department by establishing an environment conducive to pursuing the vision.

The department will serve the hospital by becoming a regionally and nationally recognized leader in hospital pharmacy by establishing itself as a source of pride for the hospital.
The department will serve the School of Pharmacy and its faculty by providing an environment conducive to teaching, to practicing, and to conducting research.
The department will serve pharmacy students and residents by providing an environment conducive to learning all aspects of pharmacy practice: the ethical and legal, the technical, the cognitive, the interpersonal, and the compassionate.
The department will serve the profession of pharmacy by developing programs and processes that continuously advance practice and improve patient care.
