People who undergo gastric bypass surgery need to change their eating habits for life. Mary Beth Sodus, nutritionist for the Center for Weight Management and Wellness at the University of Maryland Medical Center, discusses the many adjustments that are necessary to get the most out of their surgery and have successful weight loss. Ms. Sodus also explains how a smaller stomach will affect a person's hunger levels and how much food they can eat.

Other topics in the podcast include vitamins and minerals, alcohol consumption, carbonated beverages, exercise, meal replacements and supplements. She also discusses dumping syndrome, a consequence of eating too fast or foods too high in fat or sugar.

In this interview with Sharon Boston, listeners will also learn an important rule regarding when and how much liquids gastric bypass patients should drink.
