Dr. Kevin Cullen, director of the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center and professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, discusses "targeted" drug therapies, cancer vaccines and other advances in treating cancer. Some new treatments are tailored to an individual's genetic make-up while others stimulate the body's immune system to attack the cancer.
In this interview with Karen Warmkessel, Dr. Cullen also talks about cancer stem cells -- adult stem cells that are at the forefront of cancer research today that represent a new tool in understanding the disease. He explains the multidisciplinary approach to cancer care at the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center.
