Addictions to drugs and alcohol affect thousands of people in the United States – from those living in inner city environments to those in suburban and rural areas.
With nearly 10 percent of all Americans having used an illicit drug, physicians are researching new treatment methods for those who are addicted.
In this interview with Becky Ceraul, Dr. Christopher Welsh, a psychiatrist and addictions specialist at the University of Maryland Medical Center and an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, discusses the reasons why people become addicted to drugs or alcohol and what treatments are available to help them.
