More than 300,000 people over age 65 suffer from a hip fracture in the United States each year. Most of them are women whose bones have become weak due to osteoporosis. A hip fracture can have a significant impact on a person's life.

In this Medically Speaking Podcast, Jay Magaziner, Ph.D., describes the causes and treatment of hip fractures, as well as the latest research on preventing these devastating injuries. Dr. Magaziner is professor and chairman of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
