Overview: In addition to surgeons and operating room nurses, anesthesiologists are a critical part of the surgical team. The anesthesiologist is responsible for the medical management, sedation and pain relief of every person who is having surgery. In this Medically Speaking podcast, Beatrice M. Afrangui, M.D., explains how patients can prepare for surgery and what to expect before, during and after the procedure. And in this interview with Bill Seiler, she describes what questions patients may want to ask about pain control after surgery.
Dr. Afrangui is an anesthesiologist and medical director of the Surgical Preparation Center, known as the PREP Center, at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She is also an assistant professor of anesthesiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
