About UMMC

The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) in Baltimore is a 750-bed teaching hospital that provides a full range of health care services, coordinated across two hospital campuses and several community locations. As the flagship of the University of Maryland Medical System, UMMC serves as a referral center for the most critically ill and injured patients in the Mid-Atlantic region.

UMMC was established in 1823 in partnership with the first public medical school in the nation. Today, as then, all attending physicians at UMMC are faculty members at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Our Internship

The UMMC Dietetic Internship, started in 1990, is a clinically-focused ten-month program. We start in September the first Tuesday after Labor Day and finish late June.  Four interns are accepted annually, allowing extensive individual attention between intern and preceptor. Interns are mentored to develop clinical competencies, critical thinking, and complex nutrition assessment, counseling and communication skills. Rotations, classes and other learning experiences are designed to meet the Accreditation Standards for Dietetic Internship Programs established by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
