Environment of Care
As a Licensed Independent Practitioner, your skills and expertise enable the core mission of the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). In addition to serving the needs of our patients on a daily basis, your experience and participation are needed both during routine events that affect the environment of care, as well as during disasters such as floods, hurricanes, and epidemics. During these periods of extraordinary demands you may be asked to perform duties outside of your normal roles. In order to help clarify expectations and roles during emergency management situations, we are providing you with this information.
Your familiarity with this information well in advance of your being called upon for an emergency contributes to the culture of safety at UMMC and the School of Medicine (SOM). The Joint Commission also requires that you are notified in writing about disaster roles.
To acknowledge that you have received and understood this communication, please click here http://www.viewletcentral.com/vc/viewlet/618718630/ to access a brief on-line acknowledgment and survey form. Completion will be automatically reported to the Medical Staff Services Department. This must be completed prior to privileges being granted, and then annually thereafter.
Please contact Jim Chang, Safety Officer (410-328-6001), or me if you have questions or concerns related to this information. On behalf of UMMC, thank you for your dedicated service, and please accept my personal thanks for your efforts to go the extra step in supporting this activity.
