Secure Starts at the Taghi Modarressi Center for Infant Study (CIS) provides specialized mental health services to newborns and children up to 5 years of age who are at risk for or are already experiencing social, emotional or behavioral challenges. The CIS came into being through the work of Taghi Modarressi, who founded the center 20 years ago and established a tradition of leadership in treatment, research and training in the field of infant and preschool mental health.

Scope of Services

Mental health assessments are provided to young children and their families having trouble with::

  • Problems related to attachment between caregiver and child
  • Depression
  • Separation anxiety
  • Traumatic experiences
  • Sexual abuse
  • Physical abuse and neglect
  • Oppositional and aggressive behavior
  • Problems with inattention and hyperactivity
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Difficulty adjusting to school
  • Behavioral and emotional regulation challenges

Multidisciplinary Treatment Team

Secure Starts' team is committed to helping families strengthen their child's emotional and behavioral development through treatment, training, consultation and research. The staff actively collaborates with preschools, pediatric practices, social services, and other community agencies to enhance the well-being and care of young children and their families.

Secure Starts' team of experts includes psychologists, counselors, nurses, social workers and psychiatrists. The multidisciplinary team performs diagnostic assessments and provides comprehensive treatment and consultations to families within the community.
