University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt Psychiatry Residency Program

Welcome to Our Psychiatry Residency Program

Thank you for your interest in the Psychiatry Residency Program of University of Maryland and Sheppard Pratt at Baltimore, Maryland.

The University of Maryland Medical Center and the Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital have been at the forefront of psychiatry residency education and training for over 60 years.

Our residency training program is structured to prepare our graduates to succeed in whatever aspect of psychiatry they choose to pursue in their post-residency years. Our graduates have succeeded in the wide array of possibilities available to the modern psychiatrist, including careers as academic clinical educators, subspecialists, full-time research psychiatrists, community psychiatrists, private practitioners, and psychoanalysts/psychotherapists. Our graduates have been able to achieve this success in part due to the depth and breadth of our training program and the strength of our many fellowship programs.

Over the course of the training program, each resident cares for a wide range of patients in a variety of settings. The educational value of caring for our diverse patient population is enhanced by intensive supervision, a comprehensive didactic curriculum, and case conferences.

We believe that we have an exceptional training program that is enhanced by having a large faculty dedicated to teaching and residents who are actively engaged in pursuing their education.

We welcome your interest in our diverse, exciting, and vibrant program.
