Biography:
Research Interest: Doctor Liggett is an internationally recognized leader in the field of G-protein coupled receptor biology, congestive heart failure, and asthma. He has not only made seminal discoveries in this field, but he has also recognized as one of the forces that has moved the field forward. He uses a bedside-to-bench-to-bedside approach in which polymorphisms (variations in sequence) in genes for adrenergic receptors contributes to pathogenesis and response to therapy in asthma and heart failure. Human genes encoding various polymorphisms are studied functionally in cell culture and transgenic mouse models and the findings are returned to the clinical arena to analyze the influence of these polymorphisms on disease pathogenesis and therapeutic responses in humans.
