Healthy living doesn't end with your treatment at the hospital. To reach optimum health, healthy living habits must be established and followed at home. There are many compenents to a healthy lifestyle and it is important to consider everything that could negatively effect your health.

Vaccinations

  • The pneumococcal vaccine helps to prevent certain types of pneumonia. You should consider having the vaccine if you are 65 years of age or older unless you have had a previous allergic reaction. Ask your nurse or doctor about the vaccine.
  • The flu vaccine lessens your risk of seasonal flu. People who should be vaccinated include: children 6 months – 18 years, pregnant women, people aged 50 years and older, people with chronic medical conditions and residents of nursing homes.

Healthly Eating and Exercise Tips

  • If your doctor has put you on a special diet, it is important to follow it. If you do not understand the diet, ask for a nutritionist to provide further explaination.
  • If you are not on a special diet, it is important to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and grains, drink plenty of water, keep portions moderate and limit sweet and salty foods. A balanced diet is a key component of healthy living.
  • Exercise is important at any age. Ask your doctor before starting any fitness program to ensure that your exercise plan is safe for you.
