Neurology Residency

Application and Interview Process

The University of Maryland Department of Neurology participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS; www.aamc.org) and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP; www.nrmp.org). Applicants should apply to our Residency Program through these organizations. Candidates will be invited for an interview by the Resident Selection Committee. Interviews are usually conducted on Wednesdays between November and January, prior to the match deadline. We prefer that candidates schedule visits on the specified interview dates when we are best able to present our program. We do understand the difficulties that arise in the scheduling of multiple interviews and will try to accommodate individual requests for other dates whenever possible.

Interviewees are invited to attend a dinner with our neurology residents on the Tuesday evening before their interview. On Wednesday, there will be a brief orientation session, attendance at Grand Rounds, a series of interviews, lunch, a tour of the facilities, and a end of the day reception.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for a preliminary PGY-1 position in internal medicine at the University of Maryland. Please see www.umm.edu/imres/ and the Application Process for more information. Interviews for preliminary internal medicine positions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, making it easy to schedule back-to-back interviews with the Departments of Neurology and Internal Medicine. Applicants who match to our neurology program receive high priority consideration for a preliminary position in the internal medicine program.

The University of Maryland Medical System is located in the downtown area of Baltimore and is readily accessible from the airport, interstate highways, and Amtrak. A variety of hotels are located nearby. We will provide hotel information and area maps when we send interview confirmation letters, an agenda, and other informational hand-outs.
