Faculty and staff of the Department of Neurology are actively engaged in an expanding research program in the clinical and basic neurosciences.
The Department has research facilities in the following locations:
The Neurology Department has consistently ranked in the top 10 departments at public institutions in obtaining federal funds for neuroscience research. The Baltimore VA Neurology Service was recently ranked in the top 5 in the nation in funded neuroscience research.
We are fortunate at the University of Maryland that neuroscience research is conducted in a wide variety of departments other than neurology. In fact, more than a third of funded research at the Medical School is in the neurosciences. There is active collaboration and frequent interaction between members of other departments and the Department of Neurology.
A Dean's initiative is on-going with the goal of substantially increasing the number of senior and junior research faculty in the School of Medicine. The Department of Neurology will surely benefit from this research initiative. Furthermore, the University is planning to substantially increase laboratory facilities in new buildings over the next several years. A research BioPark is currently under construction just west of the School of Medicine campus.
