Medical Records

The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) retains hospital based medical records in accordance with Federal and Maryland State Laws and regulations.

Medical records shall be retained for no less than 10 years, with exception of the following:

  1. University of Maryland Cancer Center records are maintained perpetually.
  2. Adult records (age 18+) will be retained for 10 years post creation
  3. Minors' records will be retained until the age of majority plus 10 years.
  4. Obstetrical records must be retained 23 years after birth of child.
