Attendings in Trauma Surgery are available in the Shock Trauma Center 24 hours a day for consultation and referral regarding patients with severe single or multiple system injuries. These fellowship-trained surgeons direct Shock Trauma's team of fellows, residents, medical students, and nurses.
The teams are responsible for the global management of all patients admitted to Shock Trauma, beginning with assessment, stabilization, and diagnosis in the Trauma Resuscitation Unit (TRU).
Trauma attendings also perform emergent and scheduled surgical procedures and oversee clinical management on the recovery units. For patients discharged from the trauma center, surgeons provide follow-up care through the Shock Trauma outpatient clinic.
Specialists at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center are available for consultation and patient referral 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Ambulatory patients are evaluated in Shock Trauma's Outpatient Clinic on a scheduled basis.
