The University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center is partnering with The Charmer Sunbelt Group, one of the nation’s principal distributors of alcoholic and non-alcoholic products, to kick off a public service campaign meant to raise awareness of underage drinking and alcohol-related crashes this prom and graduation season. This is a time of year when teens are most at risk for making dangerous decisions.
The campaign, featuring radio public service announcements with Maryland Attorney General Douglas Gansler, will begin airing in mid-May. It stresses the importance of making responsibility a family matter. The legal drinking limit is 21, and no one under that age should buy, possess, consume or have alcohol provided to them. Parents are encouraged to sit down and talk with their sons and daughters about resisting pressure to drinking if alcohol is served illegally at a prom party or to get into a car with a driver who is impaired.
