Since its inception, the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center has played an important role in shaping the careers of generations of physicians. Prestigious fellowship training programs - first established by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) and now provided through the University of Maryland School of Medicine's Program in Trauma - have resulted in a highly accomplished network of trauma, critical care, and surgical specialists practicing throughout the U.S. and around the world.
