The Shock Trauma Center conducts its public education activities primarily through its community outreach and prevention activities. Shock Trauma conducts a variety of prevention programs in collaboration with schools, community groups and the court system throughout the state and with national prevention programs. One such initiative involves a strong partnership with the American Trauma Society. These collaborative programs with the American Trauma Society are conducted throughout the state on a routine basis at schools, EMS/fire department open houses and community safety events. All of these programs include how the public should access the 9-1-1 system and basic bystander care.
Shock Trauma Center initiated prevention activities are conducted primarily by Shock Trauma nurses and physicians who work in collaboration with injury prevention advocacy groups. Most of these programs are conducted on an "as requested" basis with physicians and nurses responding as needed.
