Primary Care - Sports Medicine Fellowship

Faculty

Valerie E. Cothran, M.D.

Valerie E. Cothran, M.D., C.A.Q.

Dr. Cothran received her medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C. She completed her residency training at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. She also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She is team physician for the University of Maryland Terrapins and Archbishop Spaulding, Cavaliers. She serves as assistant professor of family and community medicine and serves as the program director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. She has a special interest in childhood obesity, sports medicine, and injury prevention.


Andrew Tucker, M.D.

Andrew Tucker, M.D.

Dr. Tucker received his medical degree from Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Ill. He completed a residency in family medicine at Wake Forest University, The Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC. He also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at The Alabama Sports Medicine and Orthopeadic Center in Birmingham, Ala. Dr. Tucker serves as the associate program director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. He is the head team physician for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL).

He serves as medical director of the Union Memorial Sports Medicine program at Union Memorial Hospital (UMH) in Baltimore, and has over 15 years experience providing primary medical care to professional, collegiate, scholastic and recreational athletes. Dr. Tucker, a prominent sports health expert, is the head team physician for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL) and serves on several NFL advisory and subcommittees focused on performance enhancing agents, mild traumatic brain injury, and cardiovascular health. Dr. Tucker is the president of the NFL Physicians Society..


Yvette Rooks, M.D.

Yvette Rooks, M.D., C.A.Q.

Dr. Rooks received her medical degree from the State University of New York in Syracuse. She completed her residency training here at the University of Maryland. She also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She is the head team physician for the University of Maryland Terrapins. She serves as an assistant professor of Family and Community Medicine and is the program director. Dr. Rooks also serves as the vice chairman of the Department of Family and Community Medicine.


Brian Corwell, M.D.

Brian Corwell, M.D.

Dr. Corwell received his medical degree from the University of Maryland. He completed a residency in emergency medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in sports medicine here at the University of Maryland. He is team physician for the University of Maryland Terrapins. Dr. Corwell serves as assistant professor of emergency medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.


Teri Metcalf McCambridge, M.D.

Teri Metcalf McCambridge, M.D.

Dr. McCambridge received her medical degree and completed a residency in pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She also completed a fellowship in adolescent and sports medicine from the University of Wisconson. She is team physician for Towson University, College of Notre Dame of Maryland, and Rebounders Gymnastics. Dr. McCambridge serves as assistant professor of pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins University. She is the chairperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness.


Craig Bennett, M.D.

Dr. Bennett received his medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Emory University and a knee and shoulder surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is an assistant professor of orthopaedics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and chief of sports medicine in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He serves as the head team orthopaedic surgeon for the University of Maryland at College Park. Dr. Bennett previously served on the staff of the Center for Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, where his roles included being associate team physician with the Pittsburgh Steelers and head team physician for the University of Pittsburgh men's basketball team.


James Dreese, M.D.

James C. Dreese, M.D.

Dr. Dreese earned his medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. He completed a residency in orthopaedics at the esteemed Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He gained specialized training and skill in treating problems of the shoulder, knee and elbow as a sports medicine fellow at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Dreese serves as a team physician for the University of Maryland Terrapin athletic teams in College Park.
