Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy involves hands -on evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. Several of our physical therapists have received extensive training and certifications in manual therapy from the University of St. Augustine and Michigan State University. Manual therapy includes joint mobilization, myofascial release, strain/counterstrain and other techniques. This allows for a systematic, integrated approach to restore patients to their prior level of function.

Kernan Physical Therapy is now pleased to offer specialized physical therapy services for women throughout the lifespan. We demonstrate clinical expertise in treating the following obstetrical and gynecological conditions: pelvic pain, painful intercourse/dyspaurenia, prenatal and postpartum musculoskeletal dysfunction, low back pain, urinary and fecal incontinence, and genital edema. Treatment for these conditions includes, thorough evaluation by a physical therapist specializes in women's health, hands-on manual therapy to correct the problematic muscles and joints, therapeutic exercise, and biofeedback and behavioral training.

Neil Asher Frozen Shoulder Technique

Frozen Shoulder Syndrome is a very painful and debilitating condition of the shoulder characterized by pain and stiffness. It is a clinical diagnosis and is only very rarely the result of an underlying pathology. Fortunately once cured it almost never comes back on the same shoulder. It often comes on for seemingly no reason at all (primary) but may follow a trauma, shoulder surgery or breast re-construction (secondary.)

Traditionally, physical therapy attempts to improve the range of motion which may not be tolerated well by patients in a significant amount of pain. The Niel-Asher Technique® works differently. The Niel-Asher Technique® is a 'natural' method utilizing the body's own healing mechanisms. No drugs, no surgery. It is HANDS-ON-ONLY. It uses a specific and unique sequence of manipulations to the shoulder joints and soft-tissues.
