
Susan
Mendley, M.D., has been the Director of Nephrology in the Department
of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland Hospital for Children since 1999.
She is also an attending nephrologist in the Department of Medicine. Her interests
and expertise include pediatric kidney transplantation, pediatric dialysis therapies,
glomerular kidney diseases and high blood pressure in children. Prior to her
arrival at the University of Maryland, Mendley was a faculty member at Northwestern
University Medical School and Children's Memorial Hospital, where she was director
of pediatric dialysis.
She has established a national reputation in the optimal care of children requiring dialysis therapy and in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric hypertension. Mendley received her medical degree from Boston University. Following her residency at the University of Chicago, she completed a fellowship in nephrology at that institution, followed by a fellowship in pediatric nephrology at Northwestern University Children's Memorial Hospital.
Prior to coming to the University of Maryland, Mian was a faculty member at the Children's Medical Center at the Medical College of Georgia. She received her degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed both her pediatric residency training and pediatric nephrology fellowship training at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York.
Eugene
Schweitzer, M.D., a well-respected surgeon, is University of Maryland's
director of kidney transplantation. He received his medical degree from the
University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey and spent his residency at
University Hospital in Newark.
He continued his training at the University of Minnesota. Schweitzer specializes in kidney and pancreas transplantation and plays an active role in clinical research.
Roger
Voigt, M.D., a pediatric surgeon at the Medical Center, performs some
pediatric transplantation procedures with Farney. He came to the University
of Maryland in 1989 as a fellow in pediatric surgery.
Voigt received his medical degree in 1980 from the University of Auckland in New Zealand. He then went on to do his residency at the Auckland Hospital Board Hospitals, and served as the Chief Surgical Registrar at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia before coming to the Medical Center. In addition to pediatric surgery, Voigt specializes in pediatric urology and oncology.
Our pediatric transplant team also includes a pediatric transplant coordinator. This person is actively involved with patients and their families throughout the entire transplantation process, from their pre-transplant evaluations and hospitalization to their post-transplant period.
