Overview:
The aortic valve plays an important role in keeping oxygenated blood flowing from the heart to the aorta, the human body's largest artery. However, as people age, the aortic valve can enlarge and thicken, causing the need for replacement to restore healthy blood flow. In this video, WJZ-TV, with the help of expert medical commentary from UMMC's Dr. Jamie Brown, describes one patient's success after undergoing aortic valve replacement surgery.
Dr. Jamie Brown is an associate professor of surgery at the Maryland Heart Center who also currently serves as an active member of both the Association for Academic Surgery and the American College of Chest Physicians. His medical expertise continues to enhance UMMC's position as a pioneer of innovative cardiac care services.
