University of Maryland Medical Center Achieves Magnet Status

We have Magnet Designation! The University of Maryland Medical Center held a big celebration with the official word from the American Nurses Credentialing Center that it had earned Magnet Designation. Now UMMC is among only 5 percent of hospitals nationwide that have this designation, which is recognition of excellence in nursing.

A jubilant celebration followed the telephone call from Gail Wolf, chairperson of the Magnet Recognition Program, to UMMC Chief Nursing Officer Lisa Rowen, heard by hundreds of nurses and other staff in the auditorium on July 13, 2009.

Magnet means a lot for attracting and retaining the best nurses. And patients who know about Magnet want to come to a Magnet hospital because it means they will get excellent nursing care.
