In this video, Dr. Vincent D. Pellegrini, Jr., chief of orthopaedics at the University of Maryland Medical Center and professor and chairman of orthopaedics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, explains the goals of the Orthopaedics Department and how specialized care is tailored to each individual patient. A former patient of Dr. Pellegrini also talks about his experience. Dr. Pellegrini explains how all members of the orthopaedics team -- including anesthesiologists, pain management specialists, physical and occupational therapists, the nursing staff and case managers -- all work together to exclusively care for the orthopaedics patient, which brings the patient care experience to the highest level possible. Dr. Pellegrini also discusses how the deparment is developing less invasive techniques designed to facilitate rehabilitation.
