Hear about Leon Crosby’s experience with having minimally invasive mitral valve repair surgery at the Maryland Heart Center.  In this 6-minute video, Cosby talks about his health problems, what it was like to face the prospect of heart surgery and the care he received at the University of Maryland Medical Center. His family also shares how quickly Cosby progressed through his recovery.

You’ll also hear from Cosby’s medical team, including cardiac surgeon James Gammie, cardiologist Christopher DeFilippi, physician assistant Mary Santos and nurse practitioner Jo Ann Sikora. Dr. Gammie discusses his expertise with mitral valve disease and the benefits of minimally invasive heart surgery over open heart surgery. Dr. De Filippi discusses ideal candidates for mitral valve repair surgery and his role as a diagnostic imaging expert. Physician assistant Mary Santos talks about her role in guiding Dr. Gammie’s patients through the entire surgical process, and nurse practitioner Jo Ann Sikora explains her role and the importance of being available to patients, whether they are in the hospital or at home.
