Alternative Medicine

The University of Maryland Center for Integrative Medicine (CIM), founded in 1991 by Brian Berman, M.D., director of the CIM and professor of Family and Community Medicine, is comprised of four interdependent divisions: patient care, research, education and informatics.

Integrative medicine blends the best of conventional and complementary medical approaches, addressing not only physical symptoms, but also psychological, social, environmental and spiritual aspects of health and illness. It believes in stimulating the innate human capacity for healing, empowering patients in their own care, while providing health care choices that are proven to be safe and effective.
