Childbirth and Related Education Classes 2009

Note: New class prices are effective starting with the June classes.

Infant Care with CPR and Safety

Taught by a registered nurse, this class covers basic infant care like bathing, cord care, diapering, temperature taking, and circumcision care. Additionally, infant and child CPR and choking rescue methods will be taught. Household babyproofing and safety is also included. This class is taught using The American Heart Association Infant CPR Anytime program. It is not a certification program.

Saturday classes are offered from 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., and include a break. Thursday classes are offered from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. and alternate, offering either Infant Safety/CPR or Infant Care.This class is for educational purposes and certification will not be obtained during the course.

Breastfeeding

Taught by a registered nurse, this class covers topics including advantages of breastfeeding, positioning and proper latch, pumping and storing breast milk, and returning to work.

Labor and Delivery Tours and Sibling Tours

Tour includes Labor and Delivery Unit, Mother/Baby Unit and Newborn Nursery. Does not include tour of NICU. Tours are held once a month on Sunday afternoons from 4-5pm. Tour is free for expectant mothers and support person, although registration is required.

Sibling Tours

Sibling tours are arranged on an individual basis and are tailored to the individual childs age and needs. Tours typically include reading a book or coloring activity, a discussion about the new baby and a souvenir cap, booties and gown. Family and child will tour Labor and Delivery Unit, Mother/Baby Unit and Newborn Nursery. Recommended for children ages 4-8.

Childbirth Education

Childbirth education classes are offered once monthly as a marathon all-day class on Saturdays, from 9am-5pm. The class includes breathing and relaxation techniques, discussion on the stages of labor, pain management options, pushing techniques and what to expect in the immediate postpartum period. Class also includes a tour of Labor and Delivery.
