2006 IVF Statistics/Success Rates

For More Information

The Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) Web site has information on IVF success rates of other centers in Maryland. Click here, and then click on Maryland to see this data.

The data shown below is divided into separate age groups as is required for reporting to the Centers for Disease Control. This reporting is required by law. This data is the same actual data to be reported to the Centers for Disease Control.

Explanation of Statistics

Initiated cycles refer to the number of treatment attempts that were started in each age group.

%Pregnant/Retrieval describes pregnancies that progressed far enough to be seen on ultrasound divided by the number of treatment attempts that progressed to removal of eggs. In other words, percentage of pregnancies per egg retrieval. Multiple pregnancies are counted as only one. Pregnancies with only positive pregnancy tests or tubal (ectopic) pregnancies are counted as negative.

%Pregnant/Embryo Transfer are the same pregnancies described above, but divided by the cycles which progressed to transfer of embryos.

%Delivered/Retrieval refers to actual live births. All cycles which started in the last reporting year have now been completed. Therefore this is the number of live births divided by the number of egg retrievals. Again, multiple births are counted as only one. Any pregnancies that did not progress to live birth have also been removed.

%Delivered/Embryo Transfer describes the number of live births per transfer of embryos. Everything else is the same as %Delivered/Retrieval
