Prior to their second year, each resident chooses a clinical pathway, adding opportunities for focused learning experiences based on personal career goals. These pathways are led by a third-year resident and faculty mentors. Each pathway meets regularly throughout the year for focused discussions, journal clubs and unique pathway-specific experiences.

Primary Care Pathway

This pathway is intended for residents who are interested in a career in primary care, General Academic Pediatrics, Behavior and Development, Child Maltreatment, Adolescent Medicine, and those who are undecided at the end of their first year.

The Pathway is led by Susan Feigelman, a primary care physician and preceptor at the resident clinic at Pediatrics at Midtown, one of our resident continuity sites.

Recent graduates of the Primary Care Pathway are working both locally in Maryland and across the United States, in community and academic settings. Other graduates have gone on to work in public policy or preventative medicine.

Acute & Critical Care Pathway

This pathway is helpful for residents interested in a career in hospitalist medicine, Pediatric ICU, Neonatology, and Emergency Medicine.

The Pathway is led by Cortney Foster, a pediatric critical care attending in the PICU.

 Recent graduates of the Acute & Critical Care Pathway are working in areas like:

  • Academic Hospitalist
  • Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship
  • Neonatology Fellowship
  • Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship
  • Community Hospitalist & ER Physician

Subspecialty Pathway

This Pathway is ideal for residents interested in pursuing additional training through a fellowship in a specialty field.

The Pathway is led by Alicia Chaves, a Pediatric Cardiologist; and Paula Newton, a Pediatric Endocrinologist.
