The University of Maryland School Mental Health (SMH) Program seeks to enhance the learning environment of the Baltimore City Public School System by removing barriers to learning and promoting the social, emotional and behavioral well-being of students. We are dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing learning environment for students and families to access culturally sensitive and effective prevention and therapeutic services. We promote wellness and academic success using a person- and family-centered approach.

Person- and family-centered care is a collaborative approach to prevention and treatment services that highlights a child and their families. We view the patient and family as equal partners, and we highlight each person’s strengths in our personalized support and treatment plans working with students educators and their families.
