What denotes a complete application?

A complete application includes the following: ERAS Application, CV, medical school transcript, medical school performance evaluation (dean's letter), three letters of recommendation (no Chair LOR required), USMLE transcript, ECFMG certificate (if applicable) and a personal statement.

How do I submit my application?

We accept applications through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) ONLY.

When is your application deadline?

The application deadline is December 31.

How will you notify applicants of the status of their application within the program?

We will contact all applicants that apply to the General Surgery Residency Program via ERAS.

Do you have a minimum required USMLE score?

Our application review committee takes into consideration the applicants' entire packet when making a decision. Therefore, there are no minimum required scores.

Will you be requesting from applicants to complete the supplementary ERAS application for this upcoming recruitment cycle?

The program is participating in the supplemental ERAS application and is requesting that applicants submit this information with their ERAS application. Find additional information regarding this process.

Which dates will you be conducting interviews this season?

Specific dates will be offered to the individual applications after the decision has been made to grant an interview. General Surgery program interviews are by selected invite only. For 2023, the dates are as follows:

  • November 16
  • December 7
  • December 14

Interviews are scheduled beginning in October in ERAS. Information regarding which videoconferencing system we will be using will be sent out to those applicants selected for interviews.

Information for International Medical Graduates

Does your program require previous US clinical experience?

No previous U.S. clinical experience is required to apply to the program.

Does your program have a medical school graduation cutoff date?

There is no minimum/maximum number of years from medical school graduation date requirement. However, a strong applicant is considered to be post-medical school less than 5 years.

What are the visa options for the program?

We only host trainees with a current J1 Visas. We only accept US citizens and those with permanent resident status for categorical training positions. Applicants with a J-1 visa are eligible for our one year preliminary internship position.

ECFMG Certification

ECFMG Eligible upon applying to our program (Have taken the USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CS, Step 2 CK). All candidates must become ECFMG certified by the start of their residency in order to be a part of the program.
